I was caught in a predicament the other afternoon on whether to update into Avast antivirus pro or to just stick with the free edition. In the end, I went for the upgrade, and I can honestly say that I’m glad I didn’t do.
To start with, the very first thing I noticed was that the pro variations receive updates a whole lot faster than the free edition. I believe this is a big advantage because the continuous release of new viruses means that you have to rely on updates to have the ability to find them. The faster you can find the updates the greater it is and the more protected you are from new dangers.
Another very cool feature that you get together with all the pro version is that the sandbox feature. Basically what this does is it sets up an enclosed environment to conduct a program in, this environment is isolated from the major operating system, so this usually means you could conduct an infected file inside the sandbox and not be concerned about it infecting the machine or compromising your safety or information. So if you get any suspicious files via email, you can conduct them sandboxed to check if they’re legitimate or not.
Another big advantage that the pro version has to provide is your web-based protection which monitors the sites you visit and checks for possible loopholes. This means you don’t need to worry about ‘drive-by’ web pops or malware; Avast will check the website first and alert you if danger is found. Since a large majority of malware infections come in the net, I thought this was a convenient feature indeed.
Finally, there is also a scripting protector comprised in the pro edition. This is very handy for office files that may contain possible script viruses or macro viruses. These are quite common nowadays since a lot of documents are shared amongst people. The defence will scan some scripts before they’re executed and if they’re deemed to be fictitious, they will be stopped and ceased from implementing.
Complete the pro version has some rather nice additional features which will greatly improve the degree of safety on your computer, I was very glad I made the update!
